Prairie Style

Avery and I have been volunteering at the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County. Each year that organization invites third graders to visit the log cabin and learn about pre-settlement life along the Mississippi. Avery and I, along with other members of my quilt guild, have been talking to the students about quilt making.

Avery loves to play dress up so wearing this "prairie" dress to the cabin is a real treat. The dress was made for my father's cousin by her step-mother. By my estimation, it is nearly sixty years old. The button holes were done by hand and there is a tiny zipper along the side seam at the waist. I wore it too, when I was Avery's age.
